In recent years, travel websites have proliferated, catering to almost every niche. However, certain interests remain underserved. Elephant Road Trips is a specialized tool designed to fill a distinct niche: road trip planning focused on visiting "World's Largest" roadside attractions across the country.

Personas

Neil Young

Niel is a 62 year old retired author who wants to explore the parts of the country he hasn’t seen yet. He is relatively eccesntric , and takes interest in odd and unique hobbies, including frequending odd attractions and exploring unique and strange places in the country. He is not technologically literate, and prefers simple choices and easy to navigate webpages. He prefers to plan everything out fers to plan everything out before setting out on a trip.


Goals

Plan a unique road trip through different parts of the country
Plan around very specific stops, planning around having restaurants and hotels near all of his stops.
Explore a variety of attractions that are interactive as well as visually interesting

Frustrated with overly complicated interfaces

Craig Daniels


Craig is a 52 year old disabled veteran working an office job, who has kept up and is very tech literate. He usually takes a long vacaction with his wife every year, and wants to spend some more time with other activities durin his stops on the trip. He has spececific tastes for food and resteraunts, and wants to be able to manually customize a trip to his exact liking. He has gone on many road trips and wants to use a website to make a more unique vacation.


Goals

Plan a unique road trip that takes him to interesting attractions in interesting areas.
Use the novelty of roadside attractions to guide him around different cities and town that provide vacation activities, including hotels and restaraunts
Customize a road trip to specific wants and tastes

Frustrations

Frustrated with apps that won’t allow enough customization and user input
Wants an app that guides him through interesting towns, rather than stopping at boring or one-off attractions.

Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch


Timothy is a 29 year old, unemployed man who is taking some time to find himself and is wanting to go on a road trip across the country. He is interested in the novelties and oddities of the world around him, as he is an “author”. He wants to go on a trip without any real destination, and merely wants to explore different attractions while on a tight budget. He is very tech savvy, but his 7 year old cell phone and his windows xp-era laptop struggle with modern websites, so he wants to plan a trip quickly and with little effort. He wants to see more scenic parts of the country, wanting to avoid cities.

Usability Questions


Find a large animal in PA and view its details on the map

You want to go on a road trip Kutztown to Arizona. You only want to drive for 6 hours a day, and you want to visit a lot of “worlds largest” animals as you are an animal lover. Create a trip that matches these preferences.

As you are planning your trip and choosing the attractions you want to go to, you reach a point where neither of the provided options seems attractive to you. Have the app give you different options for the stop you are at.

As you are choosing what attractions you want to visit, you realize that the app hasn’t given you the option to stop at a place you had in mind, and you want to add it to your trip.

As soon as you finish planning your trip, your spouse asks that you remove the first stop you chose from the itinerary. Remove the first stop you chose from your trip
